Our goal is to create intelligent designs that not only meet our clients’ needs but exceed their expectations. To achieve this, we have developed a simple philosophy: to create exceptional work, a firm needs an extraordinary understanding of its clients’ mission, vision and industry.
At Merlino Design Partnership, our sensitivity to the diverse needs of seniors is evident in all of our work. We believe that thoughtfully designed senior housing anticipates and adapts to the physical and cognitive changes that are part of the aging process. One’s home should not be a constant reminder of one’s limitations – but a suggestion of what is possible.
Design consideration for the senior living facility must be in concert with the architectural and site design. The overall design must address the gerontological issues and be sensitive to the unique needs of the elderly. Design should be arrived at through a participating planning format with the Owner's representative, residents, developer, architect, and the interior designer. The design must respond to the lifestyles, attitudes, expectations and habits of the residents.
Design must create a home-like atmosphere and avoid the institutional sterile look. Our goal is to achieve an atmosphere that is inviting, aesthetically pleasing and comfortable for residents, appealing to resident's families, economical and easily maintained for staff. Perhaps most importantly, Merlino Design Partnership strives to incorporate creativity and areas of interactivity into an environment that delight our client’s “residents”. The goal of the facility is to provide a holistic care of the highest quality in a safe, secure supportive environment which will preserve dignity and self esteem, and accommodate individual behaviors.
We are a hands-on, participatory architectural/interior design firm. Each of our principals provides direction at every phase of your project, carefully monitoring the process from initial concept to construction. Furthermore, we select our project teams to match your project’s particular needs.
Our staff possesses the knowledge to incorporate the latest technologies into designs, and they can suggest a wide range of workable alternatives. From transforming existing facilities to creating new multi-phased continuing care retirement communities, we provide the expertise to ensure the success and marketability of your project today and for years to come. Such expertise is born of strong relationships, communications, and trust.
We believe in teamwork, partnership, and shared vision. As partners in your project’s success, we communicate and collaborate with you every step of the way. We pay attention to the details, we take the time to listen, and we offer the flexibility you need to reach better solutions and to achieve your goals.
We are involved in many leading edge endeavors such as Eden Alternative and Greenhouse Design, Green Design, Cultural Change Initiative, Living Well Model of Dementia Care, etc. The principals of our firm have written articles on Gerontological Design Issues as well as the use of carpet in the healthcare settings. We have lectured on current topics such as the “Living Well Model of Dementia Care.” Currently, along with Morrison Senior Dining, we are helping to Redefine the Senior Dining Experience.
Our staff attends seminars on lighting, ADA compliance and other aging related topics. We encourage our staff to continue their education and work towards different types of licensure such as NCIDQ, LEED and SEDG. We also are active in the many professional associations that serve the senior living marketplace.
Lastly, we are eager to provide valuable input back to the suppliers of goods and services that serve the industry. We often meet with furniture and carpet manufacturers to help them better define their senior living offering.
