Partner Profile: Sam Merlino, Founder
Merlino Design Partnership is proud to announce a major milestone in the firm’s history. Sam Merlino, the founding partner, is entering his 4oth year in the Interior Design field. Sam was a graduate of the Cranbrook Academy of Art, one of the nation’s premier graduate schools for Architecture and Design.
In the 1960's, Sam's first design post was at Vincent G. Kling & Associates, the largest architecture firm in Philadelphia. From there he moved to another Architecture firm to head up the Interior Design Department. It was at this firm that Sam started his career-long journey into the design of Healthcare and Senior Living Facilities.
In the 1970's, Sam founded his own interior design firm and was one of the leading advocates for Designing Senior Living Environments. He has written many articles and lectured on the subject and was the Mid-Atlantic Chairman for the National Association for Senior Living Industries (Nasli).
In the 1980's, Sam consulted on numerous senior living projects in Europe. Though his internship program, Sam hired me as a young designer in the late 1980's and through his excellent mentoring and guidance, a 20 year partnership was born.
Through the 1990's and 2000's the firm continues to grow and prosper and in 2005, after being selected as one of the Top 25 Design Firms in the USA, the firm received a large design commission in Tokyo, Japan. This was a major accomplishment for Sam, a true testament to his long successful and continuing career in Design.
