Inspired Design

The overall design of the community was inspired by the client’s wish to incorporate maximum flexibility into the design of residential units and common areas. The design needed to accommodate future market changes, population shifts and support the redistribution of capacity at each level of care. The residential unit walls were designed to be nonstructural, so future renovations can be completed without the need for re-engineering. Some common areas and amenity spaces were also designed for flexible programming with furnishings and portable components that can be set up for certain uses but easily changed without the need for renovations.

Style

Due to the community’s position high above the quarry and valley, the architectural style is reminiscent of a historic grand resort but with modern materials and detailing. A consistent design approach to scale, materials and detailing maintains a familiar visual aesthetic that eases transitions for residents who relocate due to care needs. Access to outdoor spaces, such as courtyards, terraces, dining areas and walking paths, as well as ample amenities in contemporary settings support the Sage|Life mission of a vibrant and active community.

Materials

The color and materials palette reinforces the desired consistency and familiarity, allowing residents to easily transition to different levels of care. Natural wood elements throughout amenity spaces infuse a warm, welcoming appeal with a touch of sophistication. Rich colors and finishes are combined to make each venue a distinct destination, such as the rustic charm in the Club Room, the exciting energy of the Overlook Bar and the casual appeal of The Quarry.
